The Wieliczka Salt Mine is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Poland’s most precious cultural monuments. Over a million tourists from around the world visit the salt mine yearly to see its exquisite carvings and reliefs. The mine continuously produced salt from the 13-th century until 1996.
The tourist route reaches a depth of 135 meters and is 3.5 kilometers long. The 2 hours walking tour encompasses many sites including numerous rock salt statues, chandeliers and a magnificent cathedral. Along the way the tour guide will showcase original miner tools and equipment as well as describe the daily life of the Wieliczka miners as they excavated salt far below the earth’s surface.
